In addition to the specific roles, our nurses provide a wide range of services including cervical smear tests, travel advice and vaccinations, blood pressure monitoring, ear syringing and health checks. Our nurses are very experienced and will give telephone advice regarding medical problems referring on to the doctor when appropriate.

You can make an appointment directly with the nurse via reception without needing to see a doctor first.

Healthcare Assistants

Rachael Banfield

Rachael joined us from a retail background. After working for a number of years in our dispensary, she has now retrained as a Health Care Assistant and is thoroughly enjoying her new role.

Phlebotomists

We have 3 phlebotomists on the clinical staff.  They do not all work every day:

Phlebotomists take blood samples at both sites every week. A phlebotomist works at The Highnam Surgery on a Wednesday morning and at the College Yard Surgery on a Tuesday afternoon. They are the only nurses who can take blood samples for Warfarin testing. Phlebotomists are able to take bloods both in The Edward Jenner Clinic at Gloucester Royal Hospital and in the surgery.
